Meanwhile, the city has about 31,000 inhabitants, divided over the 13 boroughs. The city is led by Open VLD mayor Marnic De Meulemeester, who has led Oudenaarde since 2000. The city is located in East Flanders, half an hour&#8217;s drive from Ghent and an hour&#8217;s drive from Brussels, Antwerp and the coast.<\/p><p>The history of the city goes back many centuries: Margaret of Parma, the Battle of Oudenaarde in 1708, Emperor Charles V, the tapestry industry and Hanske De Krijger.
